Palladium only spawns in Hardmode. Defeat the Wall of Flesh in the Underworld. It drops the Pwnhammer — the only tool that can break Demon or Crimson Altars to generate Hardmode ore veins underground.

Find a Demon Altar (Corruption) or Crimson Altar (Crimson) and hit it with the Pwnhammer. The 1st Altar smash generates either Cobalt (blue) or Palladium (orange) somewhere underground. Whether you get Palladium or Cobalt is determined by your world seed. Note each Altar smash also permanently corrupts a random surface tile.

Palladium Armor’s set bonus is particularly strong on Expert mode where enemies deal more damage and the regeneration burst after hits provides meaningful sustain.
The Palladium Drill (also craftable from Palladium Bars) has identical pickaxe power to the Palladium Pickaxe but mines faster — craft it after the armor for better mining speed.
Whether your world has Palladium or Cobalt is fixed at creation. Cobalt is blue; Palladium is orange — easily distinguishable on the minimap and in caves.
Ore from multiple Altar smashes coexists underground simultaneously. After smashing 3 Altars you have Palladium, Orichalcum/Mythril, and Adamantite/Titanium all present in the same cave systems.
