How to Get the Paraglider in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Updated April 2026 · 2 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
Complete the Crisis at Hyrule Castle main quest by meeting Purah at Lookout Landing and then activating the Skyview Tower there. After the tower sequence, Purah gives you the Paraglider as a reward. This is the first main story objective after leaving the Great Sky Island — follow the quest marker to Lookout Landing (south of Hyrule Castle) and you’ll have it within 20–30 minutes.
How to Get the Paraglider
1
Complete the Great Sky Island tutorial area and descend to Hyrule. The game will direct you to find Purah — follow the quest marker on your map pointing toward Lookout Landing, the small settlement south of Hyrule Castle.
2
Reach Lookout Landing and speak to Purah inside the command post building at the centre of the settlement. She’ll brief you on the situation with Hyrule Castle and ask you to help activate the Skyview Tower.
3
Activate the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower — it’s the tall structure in the middle of the settlement. Enter it, interact with the terminal, and it will launch you skyward, scanning the surrounding area and adding it to your map.
4
After the Skyview Tower sequence, return to Purah. She rewards you with the Paraglider for activating the tower. It automatically equips — press X while in the air to deploy it and glide.
Tips
→
The Paraglider drains your Stamina Wheel while in use. If your stamina is low from the Great Sky Island, prioritise upgrading your stamina at Goddess Statues early — more stamina means longer glides and safer landings from high places.
→
Dive then redeploy — falling in a dive builds speed, and redeploying the Paraglider at the bottom of a dive carries that momentum forward as horizontal distance. This is the fastest method of cross-country travel before you unlock horse riding.
→
Use Skyview Towers as Paraglider launch pads — every tower sends you high into the sky where you can glide long distances to reach distant areas, Sky Islands, or Shrines. Activating towers should be an early priority for this reason.
→
The Paraglider can be upgraded at the Kochi Dye Shop in Hateno Village to change its colour and pattern — purely cosmetic, but a fun personalisation option once you have spare Rupees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get the Paraglider before going to Lookout Landing?
No — the Paraglider is tied to the Crisis at Hyrule Castle quest and only given by Purah after you activate the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower. You cannot obtain it any other way. Go to Lookout Landing as your very first stop after leaving the Great Sky Island.
How do I use the Paraglider?
While falling or jumping, press X to deploy the Paraglider. Hold X to continue gliding; release to close it and fall faster. You can reopen it multiple times mid-air as long as you have stamina. It depletes your stamina wheel gradually while open.
What happens if I run out of stamina while gliding?
The Paraglider closes automatically and you fall. Make sure to land or find an updraft before your stamina runs out. Eating stamina-restoring food before long glides is recommended, especially early in the game before you upgrade your stamina.
Where is Lookout Landing?
Lookout Landing is directly south of Hyrule Castle, in the centre of Hyrule. From the Great Sky Island descent point, head northwest following the road. It’s the first significant settlement you encounter on the surface and is marked on your map from the moment you land in Hyrule.
