How to Get the Lothric Knight Sword in Dark Souls 3
Updated April 2026 · 2 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
The Lothric Knight Sword drops from Lothric Knights wielding straight swords — found throughout the High Wall of Lothric from the very start of the game. It has a 1.5% base drop chance, increased to roughly 5% with 10 Luck and the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring. The most efficient farming spot is the two Lothric Knights near the Vordt of the Boreal Valley bonfire. Requires Str 11, Dex 13 to wield.
How to Farm the Lothric Knight Sword
1Rest at the Vordt of the Boreal Valley bonfire (after defeating Vordt in the High Wall of Lothric). Two Lothric Knights patrol just ahead — one with a straight sword and shield, one with a spear. Only the straight sword Lothric Knight drops the sword.
2Kill both knights (or just the sword one) and rest at the bonfire to respawn them. Repeat. Each run takes about 60–90 seconds. At base drop rate expect roughly 20–30 runs; with item discovery boosters, closer to 10–15 runs.
3Maximise item discovery before farming: equip the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring (+50 Item Discovery), consume a Rusted Coin (+50 temporarily), and optionally equip the Symbol of Avarice helm (+100 Item Discovery, found from mimic chests). These stack to dramatically increase drop odds.
4Alternative: farm the three Lothric Knights outside the Dancer fog gate in the High Wall chapel area. There are more sword knights here, but the run is slightly longer. Good if you’re also farming the Lothric Knight Shield or Lothric Knight Armor set simultaneously.
Why the Lothric Knight Sword is the Best Straight Sword
→Best reach of any straight sword — the Lothric Knight Sword has longer range than the Dark Sword or Longsword, giving it an advantage in both PvE and PvP spacing. Its thrusting R2 attack adds a further poke option unavailable on most straight swords.
→Lightning infusion + 40 Faith is the strongest version — Lightning Lothric Knight Sword with the Lightning Clutch Ring and Canvas Talisman buff (Lightning Blade) is one of the highest-damage straight sword setups in the game. See our best build guide for the full setup.
→Quality infusion scales well — at 40 Str / 40 Dex with Sharp infusion (+10), it reaches A-scaling in Dexterity. A strong choice for a Knight or Mercenary build that wants a reliable, fast, long-range straight sword.
→Weapon Art: Shield Bash — the default Weapon Art lets you stagger enemies with a shield bash even while two-handing. This interrupts many enemy attacks and creates free damage windows — particularly useful in PvP to break opponent guard.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the drop rate of the Lothric Knight Sword? The base drop rate is approximately 1.5%. With 10 Luck stat, Covetous Gold Serpent Ring (+2 version), Rusted Coin, and Symbol of Avarice, item discovery reaches around 300–400, raising the effective drop rate to roughly 6–8%. Most players get the drop within 15–25 runs with full item discovery.
Can I buy the Lothric Knight Sword? No — the Lothric Knight Sword cannot be purchased from any merchant. It is only obtainable as a drop from Lothric Knights wielding straight swords. It also cannot be found as a static item in the world — farming is the only option.
Is the Dark Sword better than the Lothric Knight Sword? The Dark Sword deals slightly more damage per hit and is easier to obtain (drops from Darkwraith enemies in Farron Keep), but the Lothric Knight Sword has longer reach and a more versatile moveset with its thrusting R2. For PvP, Lothric Knight Sword is generally preferred. For pure PvE damage, both are strong.
What stats should I level for the Lothric Knight Sword? For Lightning infusion: Faith 40, Dexterity 20 (minimum for best scaling), Strength 11. For Sharp infusion (Dex build): Dexterity 40–60, Strength 11. For Quality: Strength 40, Dexterity 40. Check our best build guide for full stat recommendations per build type.
