How to Get Wood Fast in Stardew Valley
Updated April 2026 · 3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
The fastest way to get large amounts of Wood is to upgrade your axe to Copper or Steel and chop trees in Cindersap Forest or on your farm. Each tree drops 12–20 Wood. For the fastest possible clearing, use a Gold or Iridium Axe which fells trees in 1–2 swings and also chops large stumps for Hardwood.
How to Get Wood Fast
1
Upgrade your axe as early as possible. A basic axe takes 3 swings per tree section — a Copper Axe cuts that to 2 swings and a Steel Axe to 1 swing per section, tripling your wood collection speed. Visit Clint’s Blacksmith to upgrade — Copper Axe costs 2,000g and 5 Copper Bars; Steel Axe costs 5,000g and 5 Iron Bars. Both are worth doing as early as Year 1 Spring.
2
Clear your farm completely. Your farm starts with dozens of trees — chopping them all down gives you 400–600 Wood in a single session. Regrow trees by planting Tree Seeds in untilled soil if you want a permanent farm wood supply. Each mature tree yields 12–20 Wood when felled plus branches and sap.
3
Chop trees in Cindersap Forest and on the Mountain. Cindersap Forest south of your farm has dozens of respawning trees. The Mountain area near the mines also has abundant trees. These areas regenerate trees regularly — visit them on days when your farm has been cleared to supplement your supply. Each visit to a full forest can yield 100–200+ Wood efficiently.
4
Plant a Wood Farm with Tree Seeds. Collect Tree Seeds (drop from chopping trees) and plant them in a dedicated area of your farm. Leave space between them to grow — they take about 28 days to fully mature from seed. A 10×10 grove of trees gives you a renewable 150–200 Wood per clearing every month without leaving your farm.
5
Use the Lumberjack profession at Foraging level 10. The Lumberjack profession causes all trees to have a 25% chance of dropping Hardwood instead of regular Wood — and it doubles your overall wood yield from each tree. If you focus on wood production, choose Lumberjack at level 10 for a permanent 25% bonus to every tree you chop.
Wood Tips
→
Wood is the most used crafting material: almost every farm building, fence, path, and piece of furniture in Stardew Valley requires Wood. You will need hundreds for early buildings and thousands for a fully developed farm — never pass up an opportunity to chop trees when you have spare energy.
→
Rainy days are perfect for wood farming: on rainy days you don’t need to water crops, freeing up all your energy for chopping. Dedicate every rainy day to clearing trees — a full rainy day with a Steel or Gold Axe in Cindersap Forest can yield 500+ Wood, filling your storage in a single session.
→
Robin buys Wood: Robin does not sell Wood, but she uses it for building upgrades. You provide the Wood directly when commissioning buildings — make sure you have enough stockpiled before asking her to build so you don’t need to scramble for materials at the last minute.
→
Keep at least 999 Wood in storage: Wood disappears fast when you start building farm infrastructure. Maintaining a permanent reserve of 999 Wood (or more) means you can commission buildings, repair fences, and craft items without delays. Treat Wood like money — always keep more than you think you need.
→
Pine Cones and Acorns respawn trees: save a stack of each tree seed type to replant cleared areas. Mixed seeds planted randomly occasionally grow into standard trees — leaving some seeds scattered in untilled soil on the edges of your farm creates a passive renewable wood source without managing a dedicated grove.
FAQ
What is the fastest way to get Wood in Stardew Valley?
Upgrade your axe to Steel or Gold and chop trees in Cindersap Forest or on your farm. A Gold Axe fells trees in 1–2 swings, letting you collect 100+ Wood per energy bar. Dedicating a rainy day to tree clearing is the single most efficient way to stock up on Wood quickly.
Can you buy Wood in Stardew Valley?
Wood cannot be purchased from any shop in vanilla Stardew Valley. It must be collected by chopping trees and branches with your axe. Robin does not sell it directly — you supply the Wood yourself when commissioning buildings through her carpenter shop.
How much Wood does one tree give in Stardew Valley?
A fully grown standard tree yields approximately 12 Wood when felled, plus additional branches and sap. The exact amount varies slightly by tree type. Tree stumps left in the ground yield additional Wood when chopped with the appropriate axe upgrade level.
Do trees grow back in Stardew Valley?
Yes — wild trees in Cindersap Forest, the Mountain, and other areas gradually regrow over time. Your farm does not automatically regrow trees, but you can plant Tree Seeds to grow new ones in any untilled soil with space around them. Seeds drop from chopping trees and occasionally from foraging.
