How to Get Titanium in Terraria — Mining Guide
⚡ QUICK ANSWER
Titanium Ore appears underground after smashing the 3rd Demon or Crimson Altar with the Pwnhammer. It is the Tier 3 Hardmode ore — counterpart to Adamantite (~50% of worlds get Titanium instead). Mine with a Cobalt or Palladium Pickaxe minimum. Smelt 5 Titanium Ore into 1 Bar at a Titanium or Adamantite Forge.

How to Get Titanium in Terraria — Step by Step
Ensure you have smashed 2 Altars already and upgrade first
Titanium appears after the 3rd Altar smash. The 1st smash → Cobalt/Palladium. The 2nd smash → Mythril/Orichalcum. Smash the 3rd Altar to generate Titanium (or Adamantite). Before doing so, ensure you have already built a Mythril or Orichalcum Pickaxe — you need Tier 2 tools to mine Titanium.
📈 Smash order: 1st=Cobalt, 2nd=Mythril, 3rd=Titanium — need Mythril Pickaxe firstSmash the 3rd Altar with the Pwnhammer
Find a Demon/Crimson Altar (they have not all been smashed — new ore requires fresh smashes) and hit it with the Pwnhammer for the 3rd time. A Titanium or Adamantite vein spawns somewhere underground. Subsequent smashes continue cycling through the three tiers again — more Altar smashes = more ore veins.
🔨 Each Altar smash generates one ore vein underground — 3rd smash = Titanium/AdamantiteUse a Spelunker Potion to find Titanium veins
After smashing the 3rd Altar, brew a Spelunker Potion and descend into the Cavern layer. Titanium Ore appears as silver-grey metallic veins — subtly different from the brighter Mythril and the orange-red Adamantite. The Spelunker Potion highlights all ore in gold, making Titanium easy to spot even in dark caverns.
🌟 Spelunker Potion highlights Titanium — brew from Bottled Water + Blinkroot + Gold Ore + MoonglowMine Titanium with a Cobalt/Palladium Pickaxe or better
Titanium Ore requires at minimum a Cobalt Pickaxe or Palladium Pickaxe (Tier 1 Hardmode tools). Mythril/Orichalcum Pickaxes also work and mine faster. Pre-Hardmode Gold/Platinum Pickaxes cannot mine Titanium Ore. Craft a Tier 1 Hardmode pickaxe from Cobalt/Palladium Bars at an Iron Anvil if you haven’t already.
⛏️ Cobalt or Palladium Pickaxe minimum — Gold Pickaxe cannot mine TitaniumBuild a Titanium Forge — the essential Tier 3 smelter
Craft a Titanium Forge from 30 Titanium Ore at an Iron Anvil. This is functionally equivalent to an Adamantite Forge and is required to smelt Chlorophyte, Spectre Bars, and all other Tier 3+ materials. If your world has Adamantite instead, build an Adamantite Forge — both enable the same recipes.
🔥 Titanium Forge = 30 Titanium Ore at Iron Anvil — same function as Adamantite ForgeSmelt Bars and craft Titanium gear
5 Titanium Ore smelts into 1 Titanium Bar at the Titanium Forge. Craft the Orichalcum Anvil from 12 Orichalcum Bars (your Tier 2 counterpart if Titanium world) — this is the Tier 2 crafting anvil. Titanium Armor (strong melee set with a powerful «Titanium Shield» set bonus absorbing one hit every 10 seconds) requires roughly 59 bars for a full set.
⚗️ 5 ore = 1 bar at Titanium Forge — Titanium Armor full set ~59 bars + Orichalcum AnvilPro Tips
Titanium Armor’s set bonus (Titanium Shield) absorbs one hit every 10 seconds — making it notably tanky for early Hardmode. Many players prefer it over Adamantite Armor specifically for this defensive mechanic.
Whether your world generates Titanium or Adamantite is fixed at world creation and cannot be changed without creating a new world. Check what ore appears after your 3rd Altar smash.
The Titanium Forge and Adamantite Forge are functionally identical — they enable the same recipes including Chlorophyte smelting and Spectre Bar crafting. Build whichever your world provides.
After building the Titanium Forge, your top priority should be farming Chlorophyte Ore in the Underground Jungle, since Chlorophyte requires this forge to smelt and is the next major crafting material.
Ore from multiple Altar smashes coexists underground simultaneously. One Spelunker Potion mining session can yield Cobalt, Mythril/Orichalcum, and Titanium all in the same cave run.
Titanium is the Tier 3 Hardmode ore in worlds that do not generate Adamantite. Its primary importance is the Titanium Forge (needed for all Tier 3+ smelting) and the Titanium Armor set bonus (shield mechanic that periodically absorbs a hit). The ore itself is found in the same way as Adamantite — 3rd Altar smash, Spelunker Potion, Cavern layer mining. Whether you have Titanium or Adamantite, the progression path is identical.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I unlock Titanium Ore in Terraria?
Titanium Ore appears after smashing the 3rd Demon or Crimson Altar with the Pwnhammer. The 1st smash generates Cobalt/Palladium, the 2nd generates Mythril/Orichalcum, and the 3rd generates Titanium or Adamantite depending on your world seed.
What pickaxe mines Titanium Ore?
You need at minimum a Cobalt or Palladium Pickaxe/Drill (Tier 1 Hardmode tools). Gold and Platinum Pickaxes cannot mine Titanium. Mythril and Orichalcum Pickaxes also work and mine faster.
What is Titanium used for in Terraria?
Key uses: Titanium Forge (30 ore, required for Chlorophyte and Spectre Bar smelting), Titanium Armor (strong melee set with shield block set bonus), Titanium Drill/Chainsaw, Orichalcum Anvil (if your world has Orichalcum as Tier 2 ore), and various weapons.
Is Titanium better than Adamantite?
Titanium Armor’s set bonus (absorbing one hit every 10 seconds) is generally considered stronger than Adamantite Armor’s set bonus for most content. However, both are equivalent Tier 3 ores and neither is strictly superior in every situation.
