How to Make a Brewing Stand in Minecraft
Updated April 2026 · 2 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
Place 1 Blaze Rod in the center cell and 3 Cobblestone across the bottom row of a crafting table. The Blaze Rod comes from Blazes in Nether Fortresses — you need to reach the Nether first. Once placed, fuel the stand with Blaze Powder to start brewing. If you still need access, start with how to make a Nether Portal in Minecraft.
How to Craft a Brewing Stand
1
Build a Nether Portal and enter the Nether. You need at least 10 Obsidian and a Flint and Steel to light it.
2
Find a Nether Fortress — the large dark brick structures. Walk in the X or Z direction (not diagonally) to find one faster. Fortresses spawn in bands every ~200 blocks.
3
Kill Blazes inside the fortress — they float near Blaze Spawners. Each Blaze drops 0–1 Blaze Rods. Collect at least 2 (1 for the stand, 1 to make Blaze Powder for fuel).
4
Back at your base, open the crafting table. Place the Blaze Rod in the center (row 2, column 2) and 3 Cobblestone across the bottom row. Collect the Brewing Stand.
5
Place the stand and right-click to open it. Put Blaze Powder in the top-left fuel slot — 1 Blaze Powder fuels 20 brewing operations. Add up to 3 Glass Bottles of water in the bottom slots and an ingredient at the top to start brewing. For the full recipe flow, see how to brew potions in Minecraft.
Tips
→
Your first potion should always be Awkward Potion (water bottle + Nether Wart). Almost every useful potion starts with this base — Nether Wart grows near staircases in Nether Fortresses.
→
Collect plenty of Blaze Rods in one trip — you’ll need them for Blaze Powder fuel too. Aim for at least 6–10 rods on your first fortress visit.
→
A Fire Resistance potion (Awkward Potion + Magma Cream) is the single most useful early brew — it lets you farm Blazes safely and survive lava falls in the Nether. It also helps a lot while following how to find Netherite in Minecraft.
→
You can find pre-placed Brewing Stands in igloos with basements and inside some End Ships — useful if you haven’t reached the Nether yet.
