How to Make Pale Ale in Stardew Valley

⚡ Quick Answer
Place 1 Hops into a Keg and wait 1–2 in-game days — it produces Pale Ale worth 300g base (420g with Artisan profession). Grow Hops in Summer using Hops Starter seeds from Pierre’s or JojaMart. Hops is the fastest crop-to-keg artisan good in the game.
How to Make Pale Ale
1
Grow Hops in Summer. Hops is a Summer crop that grows on a trellis. Buy Hops Starter seeds from Pierre’s General Store or JojaMart for 60g each. Plant in Summer — Hops takes 11 days to mature then produces Hops every day thereafter until the season ends. A 4×4 plot of Hops with Iridium Sprinklers generates 16 Hops per day in peak production.
2
Craft or obtain a Keg. The Keg recipe unlocks at Farming level 8. Craft it using 30 Wood, 1 Copper Bar, 1 Iron Bar, and 1 Oak Resin. Oak Resin is tapped from Oak Trees using a Tapper. Alternatively, Kegs are found as rewards in the Community Center Artisan Bundle. Build as many Kegs as you have Hops — one Keg per Hops plant for maximum daily throughput.
3
Place Hops into the Keg. Right-click any Keg while holding Hops to insert it. The Keg shows a countdown — Pale Ale ferments in approximately 1–2 in-game days (the fastest keg product in the game). Check your Kegs every morning and collect finished Pale Ale, then immediately reload with fresh Hops to maintain continuous production.
4
Collect and sell or gift Pale Ale. Finished Pale Ale sells for 300g base — or 420g with the Artisan profession at Farming level 10. Pale Ale is also one of Pam’s loved gifts — giving her Pale Ale gives maximum friendship points and is the most efficient way to reach 14 hearts with her for her Eight-Heart event. Keep a stock of both selling and gifting supply.
Pale Ale Tips
→
Hops is the fastest keg crop by far: Pale Ale ferments in roughly 1–2 days compared to Wine (7 days) and Juice (4 days). This makes Hops the highest keg throughput crop per season — a field of Hops running through Summer fills and empties Kegs nearly every day, generating far more Pale Ale than Wine from slower crops despite the lower per-unit value.
→
Pale Ale is Pam’s loved gift: Pam the bus driver loves Pale Ale — giving it to her fills friendship hearts faster than any other gift option. Reach 14 hearts with Pam to unlock her unique heart event. With a Hops field running through Summer you will have more than enough Pale Ale for both gifting Pam and selling the surplus for strong income.
→
Artisan profession doubles the value case: with the Artisan profession at Farming level 10, Pale Ale goes from 300g to 420g per unit — a 40% increase. Combined with Hops’ fast fermentation time, an Artisan Pale Ale operation with 20+ Kegs running through Summer generates 8,000–12,000g per day in passive income — one of the best artisan setups available in Year 1.
→
Hops grows on trellises — plan your layout: Hops plants grow on trellises and cannot be walked through — plan your field layout so you can access all plants without getting stuck. Leave corridors between rows of Hops. A 2-wide corridor every 4 rows allows full access. Quality Sprinklers placed in the center of 3×3 plots minimise walking for watering before you have Iridium Sprinklers.
→
Store Hops for year-round Keg use: Hops only grows in Summer but can be stored in a chest indefinitely. Harvest every Hops from your field at the end of Summer Day 27 and store the entire haul — then feed stored Hops into Kegs through Fall and Winter for continued Pale Ale production after the growing season ends. This extends your Pale Ale income across the entire year.
