How to Get a Geode in Stardew Valley
Updated April 2026 · 3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
Geodes drop from rocks in The Mines on floors 1–39. Break rocks with your pickaxe and geodes appear randomly — roughly 1 in every 8–10 rocks drops one. Take them to Clint’s Blacksmith Shop and pay 25g to crack one open for minerals, ores, and artifacts.
How to Get Geodes
1
Enter The Mines. The Mines are located northeast of your farm — unlock them by clearing the rockslide on Day 5 of Spring Year 1. Regular Geodes drop from rocks on floors 1–39, the first zone of the mines. The deeper you go the rarer regular geodes become, replaced by different geode types.
2
Break rocks with your pickaxe. Any rock on floors 1–39 has a chance to drop a Geode. The drop rate is roughly 10–15% per rock. A Gold or Iridium Pickaxe breaks rocks faster and hits multiple at once — significantly increasing your geode haul per energy spent.
3
Collect all four geode types as you go deeper. There are four geode variants — regular Geode (floors 1–39), Frozen Geode (floors 41–79), Magma Geode (floors 81–119), and Omni Geode (all floors, also found in Fishing Treasure Chests and from Monsters). Each contains different minerals relevant to bundles and crafting.
4
Take geodes to Clint to crack open. Visit Clint’s Blacksmith Shop in town — open Tuesday through Sunday from 9am to 4pm. Select «Process Geode» and pay 25g per geode. Each crack reveals one random item: a mineral, ore, coal, stone, or occasionally a rare artifact. You can crack multiple geodes in one visit.
Geode Tips
→
Omni Geodes are the most valuable: Omni Geodes contain minerals from all tiers and have the highest chance of yielding rare items. They drop from any floor of the mines, from fishing treasure chests, and from various monsters. Always prioritise cracking Omni Geodes first when visiting Clint.
→
Geodes contain Community Center minerals: many of the minerals needed for the Community Center Geologist’s Bundle come from geodes — Quartz, Earth Crystal, Frozen Tear, and Fire Quartz. Crack every geode you find in Year 1 to fill these bundles early.
→
Donate duplicates to the Museum: Gunther at the Museum accepts mineral and artifact donations — donating fills up the collection and earns rewards including a Stardrop and crafting recipes. Always check if a newly cracked mineral is one you haven’t donated yet before selling it.
→
The Geode Crusher processes geodes automatically: craft a Geode Crusher (recipe from Clint at 2 hearts) using 2 Gold Bars, 50 Stone, and 1 Diamond. It cracks one geode per day automatically for free — place several in your farm buildings to process your backlog without spending gold at Clint.
→
Geodes give Clint friendship: every geode you have Clint process adds a small amount of friendship with him. Cracking large batches is one of the faster ways to build his friendship meter, eventually unlocking his 14-heart event and all intermediate rewards.
