How to Get the Bloodhound’s Fang in Elden Ring
Updated April 2026 · 3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
Defeat Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol in South Limgrave — it drops the Bloodhound’s Fang as a guaranteed reward. The evergaol is located in the open field south of the Bridge of Sacrifice, southeast of the starting area. This is one of the best early-game weapons in the entire game.
How to Get the Bloodhound’s Fang
1
Find the Forlorn Hound Evergaol. From the Bridge of Sacrifice in South Limgrave — the large bridge leading toward the Weeping Peninsula — head south and slightly east across the open field. The evergaol appears as a glowing blue circle on the ground, roughly in the center of the field south of the bridge. It is accessible within the first 30 minutes of the game on Torrent.
2
Enter the evergaol and fight Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. Interact with the glowing circle to enter the prison arena. Darriwil is a fast, aggressive Bloodhound Knight — he uses rapid slashing combos, a lunging bite, and a rolling slash. He hits hard but has moderate health for an early-game boss. Recommended: Soul Level 20+ with a +3 or higher weapon.
3
Summon Blaidd for help. If you have spoken to Blaidd in Mistwood (summon him by using the Finger Snap gesture under the howling, then speak to him), his summon sign appears outside the evergaol. Blaidd is an extremely powerful NPC ally — with him summoned Darriwil becomes manageable even at low levels, as Blaidd deals massive damage and draws aggro effectively.
4
Defeat Darriwil for the guaranteed drop. The Bloodhound’s Fang is a 100% guaranteed drop — it always appears when Darriwil dies, with no RNG involved. After the fight, collect it from your inventory. It is a Somber weapon requiring Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade, maxing at +10.
Why the Bloodhound’s Fang Is So Good
→
Exceptional early game damage: at +5 the Bloodhound’s Fang already outperforms most weapons you can find or craft in early Limgrave. By +10 it is one of the highest-damage curved greatswords in the game, carrying Dexterity builds comfortably through the entire game including endgame bosses.
→
Bloodhound’s Finesse Ash of War: the built-in Ash of War performs a backflip slash followed by a follow-up slash — both deal heavy damage and the backflip has substantial invincibility frames, making it function as both an attack and a dodge. It is particularly useful for punishing boss attacks that normally don’t leave enough time for a normal roll-and-attack.
→
Scales primarily with Dexterity: requires 17 Strength and 22 Dexterity. It scales best with Dexterity and cannot be infused with a different Ash of War or affinity — it is a fixed Somber weapon. Invest in Dexterity as your primary offensive stat for maximum returns. A pure Dex build gets the most out of it.
→
Innate bleed buildup: the Bloodhound’s Fang has innate bleed on every hit — combining well with a bleed build or even just adding passive hemorrhage procs on bosses susceptible to bleed. At high Arcane the bleed buildup becomes a meaningful damage source on top of the physical hits.
→
Upgrade with Somber Stones immediately: Somber Smithing Stones are available from merchants and found in early areas — upgrade the Fang to +3 as soon as possible using Somber Stone [1] and [2] from the Nomadic Merchant near the Coastal Cave. At +3 it already feels like a mid-game weapon despite being obtainable in the first hour.
