How to Get a Void Chicken in Stardew Valley
Updated April 2026 · 3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
Get a Void Egg — buy it from Krobus in The Sewers or receive one from a random event — then place it in a Big Coop incubator. After 9 days it hatches into a Void Chicken. You can also receive a Void Egg randomly from a witch flying over your coop at night.
How to Get a Void Chicken
1
Build or upgrade to a Big Coop. Void Chickens require a Big Coop — the second tier of coop. Visit Robin at the Carpenter Shop and upgrade your basic Coop to a Big Coop for 10,000g, 400 Wood, and 150 Stone. The Big Coop adds an incubator inside — essential for hatching any egg into a chicken including Void Eggs.
2
Obtain a Void Egg. There are three ways to get one: buy it from Krobus in The Sewers for 5,000g (requires unlocking the Sewers first by donating 60 Museum items), receive one as a random gifted event from a witch flying over your coop at night, or purchase from the Traveling Cart occasionally for 1,200–2,000g.
3
Place the Void Egg in the incubator. Enter your Big Coop and walk to the incubator — a small machine on the right side of the coop interior. Right-click the incubator while holding the Void Egg to place it inside. The incubator shows a countdown — the egg hatches after 9 in-game days (or 4.5 days with the Coopmaster profession).
4
Wait for hatching and name your Void Chicken. After 9 days the egg hatches automatically and a naming prompt appears for your new Void Chicken. It immediately begins working toward producing Void Eggs as its daily product once it reaches full friendship. Build friendship by petting it daily and ensuring it goes outside on sunny days.
5
Breed more Void Chickens from the first one’s eggs. Once your Void Chicken is at 5 hearts of friendship it produces Void Eggs daily. Place a Void Egg from your own chicken back into the incubator to hatch additional Void Chickens without spending more gold. Each subsequent Void Chicken costs only incubator time, not money.
Void Chicken Tips
→
The witch event triggers randomly: occasionally a witch flies over your coop at night and leaves a Void Egg in one of the nesting boxes. This is a free Void Egg requiring no Sewer access — keep your Big Coop built and the event can occur from Year 1 onward. You cannot trigger it deliberately, but it happens more often once you have a coop with space.

Void Eggs sell for 65g base — use them for gifts: Void Eggs sell for modest amounts but are one of Krobus’s loved gifts. Giving him his own product back is a convenient gifting loop — buy one Void Egg from Krobus to start, hatch a chicken, then use its daily eggs as free loved gifts for Krobus permanently, building friendship without any ongoing gold cost.
→
Void Mayonnaise for better profit: process Void Eggs in a Mayonnaise Machine to produce Void Mayonnaise — sells for 275g base (495g with Artisan profession). This is a significant upgrade over selling raw Void Eggs at 65g. Always process animal products rather than selling raw for maximum income.
→
Unlocks the Void Egg bundle: the Void Egg is needed for the Enchanter’s Bundle in the Bulletin Board room of the Community Center. Having a Void Chicken producing daily Void Eggs makes completing this bundle effortless compared to trying to purchase one.
→
Coopmaster profession halves incubation time: at Farming level 10 the Coopmaster profession reduces incubation from 9 days to 4.5 days (rounded to 5) — halving the wait for all eggs including Void Eggs. If you plan a large coop animal operation, Coopmaster is the most impactful Farming profession for animal-focused farms.
