Farum Azula is reached by burning the Erdtree at the Forge of the Giants — this happens after defeating the Fire Giant and speaking to Melina at the Site of Grace nearby. You are then transported to Crumbling Farum Azula via a cutscene. After activating a Site of Grace there, you can travel normally, but defeating Maliketh later triggers the major irreversible world change that turns Leyndell into the Ashen Capital. Make sure to finish important Leyndell tasks before committing to the late-game sequence.

Reach the Mountaintops of the Giants. After defeating Morgott in Leyndell, the path to the Mountaintops opens via the Grand Lift of Rold — activated using the Rold Medallion dropped by Morgott. The Mountaintops is a large snowy region leading to the Forge of the Giants.

Defeat the Fire Giant. He is the mandatory boss guarding the Forge of the Giants in the eastern Mountaintops. After killing him, activate the Site of Grace directly beside the Forge — a large burning structure built into the cliffside ahead of the arena.

Speak to Melina at the Forge of the Giants Site of Grace. She appears and advances the story sequence that leads to burning the Erdtree. This triggers a long cutscene and transports you directly to Crumbling Farum Azula.

Complete Farum Azula to progress. The area is broadly linear with a clear critical path. The main boss is Maliketh, the Black Blade — defeating him triggers the major world change that transforms Leyndell into the Ashen Capital for the game’s final stretch. Activate a Site of Grace as soon as you arrive. Once you rest at a Farum Azula Site of Grace, the area becomes part of your normal fast travel network and you can return later without repeating the Forge cutscene.

Finish important Leyndell exploration before the late-game lock — the biggest permanent map change happens after Maliketh’s defeat, when Leyndell becomes the Ashen Capital and some items and routes from Leyndell Royal Capital are no longer available. If you still have unfinished capital exploration, do it before pushing through Farum Azula.

Stock up before entering — Farum Azula is an endgame legacy dungeon with harder enemies, long paths between checkpoints, and several dangerous ranged encounters. Restock healing, ranged ammo if you use it, and any buffs you rely on before committing to a full run.

Maliketh recommended level: 110–120 — he is one of the fastest and most aggressive bosses in the game. His Phase 2 adds a deadly AOE that reduces your maximum HP. Bring a high-poise build or a fast roll setup — there is very little time to heal safely.

Farum Azula contains the Blasphemous Claw — an item that can parry specific Maliketh attacks in Phase 2. You get it by defeating Bernahl when he invades in Farum Azula before the Maliketh fight, so don’t rush straight to the boss if you want the easier setup.
