⚡ Quick Answer

To get the Uchigatana in Elden Ring, go to Deathtouched Catacombs in northern Limgrave and loot it from a corpse on a ledge near the lower section of the dungeon. You do not need to beat the boss to get it. If you start as the Samurai, you already begin the game with one.

Where to Find the Uchigatana Step by Step
1 Start from The First Step or any nearby Limgrave grace, then head north toward Stormhill along the main road. If you already unlocked your mount, using Torrent makes this route much faster.
2 Look for the Deathtouched Catacombs entrance on the left side of the path, built into the rocky cliff wall. The doorway is marked by stone torches and sits roughly northwest of the Saintsbridge Site of Grace.
3 Enter and activate the Site of Grace just inside the entrance. This saves your progress in case you die inside.
4 Go down through the catacombs corridors. Be careful with skeleton enemies because they revive after being knocked down unless you hit them again while they are on the ground. The dungeon is fairly short and mostly linear, so just keep descending.
5 Loot the Uchigatana from the corpse on the ledge in the lower part of the dungeon. It is available as a normal pickup, so there is no RNG involved. You also do not need to defeat the catacombs boss — you can grab the weapon and leave immediately.
Uchigatana Tips
Start as the Samurai if you want the Uchigatana immediately without any travel. If you are still choosing a class, check the best starting class in Elden Ring for beginners.
The Uchigatana requires 11 Strength and 15 Dexterity to use properly. Most Dex-focused characters can equip it early, but if not, you may need a few extra levels first.
Upgrade it with Smithing Stones as early as possible. A +3 or +4 Uchigatana is much stronger and can carry you through early bosses like Margit and Godrick.
Dual-wielding two Uchigatanas is one of the strongest early bleed setups in the game. If you want to build around that playstyle, it pairs especially well with a Dexterity build.
The Uchigatana is one of the best early and mid-game weapons in Elden Ring because it combines fast attacks, strong Dexterity scaling, built-in bleed, and the powerful Unsheathe skill. It is easy to get, easy to upgrade, and strong enough to stay relevant for the entire game. For many players, this is the weapon that carries their whole first playthrough. More Elden Ring guides
