How to Beat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon in Elden Ring
Phase 2 — The Full Moon ArenaTips to Beat Rennala FasterRennala is considered one of the more approachable main story bosses in Elden Ring — Phase 1 is more of a puzzle, while Phase 2 becomes manageable once you learn her spell timings. She is located in the Academy of Raya Lucaria in Liurnia of the Lakes, making her one of the key early progression bosses after Godrick. Defeating her also opens the respec mechanic and usually marks the point where many players start preparing for Altus Plateau and the mid-game.
⚡ Quick Answer
Phase 1 — How to Break Rennala’s ShieldIf you want to beat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon in Elden Ring, the fight has two phases. In Phase 1, find the student glowing gold among her followers, hit them to break her shield, then attack Rennala on the ground — repeat three times. In Phase 2, dodge her sorcery attacks and punish after each spell sequence. She is weak to physical damage and fire, while magic builds struggle because of her very high magic resistance. Recommended level: 40–50.
1
Rennala floats above you surrounded by a shield of students. Listen for singing — one student in the crowd glows golden and is the source of her shield. Run through the students and hit the glowing one to interrupt their chanting and drop Rennala to the ground.
2
When Rennala falls, attack her immediately with your strongest burst damage — she stays grounded for about 10 seconds before floating back up. Use a charged heavy attack or a skill to maximize damage during this window.
3
Repeat the process three times total to deplete her Phase 1 health bar. Watch out for the chandeliers she drops from the ceiling and the small explosion when she hits the ground — stay mobile and don’t stand directly below her.
4
Phase 2 opens with her Full Moon spell — a slow-moving large projectile that deals heavy magic damage and removes your spell buffs. Dodge sideways at the last moment rather than early. After it passes, close the distance immediately and attack.
5
She summons spirit creatures periodically — a wolf pack, a giant, or a dragon. Ignore them and focus entirely on Rennala. Run past the summons and attack her directly. She is vulnerable while casting the summon animation.
6
Her most dangerous attack is the Glintstone Stars barrage — multiple tracking projectiles that follow you. Sprint in one direction and then dodge the last one, or run behind a pillar if available. After the barrage ends she pauses briefly — move in and punish.

Do not use magic or sorceries against Rennala — she has extremely high magic resistance and your spells will deal almost no damage. Stick to physical weapons and fire instead. If you want a strong melee setup for this fight, check this best Dexterity build in Elden Ring.

Fire Grease or Flame, Grant Me Strength on a physical weapon deals significantly more damage in Phase 2 and bypasses her resistances entirely.

She drops the Great Rune of the Unborn, which unlocks character respeccing at Rennala using Larval Tears. If you want to rebuild your character right after this fight, read how to respec your character in Elden Ring.

You fight Rennala alone, so manage your Flask charges carefully and heal only after her larger spell sequences. The fight is much easier if you stay aggressive instead of giving her endless room to cast.
