How to Respec Your Character in Elden Ring
Updated April 2026 · Build guide · 2 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
To respec your character in Elden Ring, you need a Larval Tear and must defeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon in Raya Lucaria Academy. After the fight, speak to Rennala in the Grand Library, choose «Rebirth», and use one Larval Tear to redistribute your stat points.
How to Respec Step by Step
1
Defeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. She is the main boss of Raya Lucaria Academy in Liurnia of the Lakes. After defeating her, she remains in the Grand Library as a peaceful NPC who unlocks the Rebirth option.
2
Get a Larval Tear. Each respec costs one Larval Tear, and these items are limited per playthrough. They are found in specific locations across the Lands Between, especially in Liurnia and Nokron. See the easiest locations below before using one carelessly.
3
Talk to Rennala in the Grand Library. After the boss fight, remain in the library and interact with her to access the «Rebirth» option. This is the menu that lets you reset and reassign your stats.
4
Hand over a Larval Tear when prompted. A stat allocation screen appears showing all your current stats reset to your starting class minimums. You have all your previously spent points to redistribute freely.
5
Redistribute your stats. Allocate points into whichever stats your new build needs. You cannot go below your starting class’s base stats — the floor is set by your original class choice. Confirm when done.
Best Early Larval Tear Locations
1
Liurnia of the Lakes — Village of the Albinaurics. A Silver Tear enemy disguised as a pot near the village entrance. Hit it once and it transforms into a giant rolling ball enemy. Kill it to get a Larval Tear.
2
Liurnia — Pidia, Carian Servant. Pidia sells one Larval Tear for 3,000 runes. He is found at Caria Manor, accessed from the cliffs behind the Three Sisters area after progressing through that region. It is one of the easiest guaranteed Larval Tears once Liurnia is fully opened up.
3
Nokron, Eternal City. Multiple Larval Tears can be found here, making it one of the best mid-game areas for respec materials. Nokron opens after defeating Radahn and is worth exploring thoroughly if you plan to change builds more than once.
Tips Before You Respec
→
Don’t waste Larval Tears early — plan your build before respeccing so you don’t need to do it again immediately.
→
Your starting class determines your minimum stats — Wretch has the lowest floor (10 in everything), making it the most flexible class for respeccing into any build.
→
Respeccing is perfect for switching into a new build after finding a strong weapon or spell setup. For example, you can pivot into a Faith build, Dexterity build, or Strength build depending on what you want to play next.
→
Always keep at least 2 Larval Tears in reserve — you never know when you’ll want to adjust for a difficult boss.
