Blazes are one of Minecraft’s most important resource farms — their rods unlock the entire potion system and are required to reach the End. On your first Nether trip, prioritise the fortress over everything else and come back with as many rods as your inventory allows. Having a permanent Blaze farm set up before you need to fight the Ender Dragon makes the endgame prep much smoother.

How to Farm Blaze Rods
Blaze Rods drop exclusively from Blazes — the flying fire mobs found inside Nether Fortresses. Each Blaze drops 0–1 Blaze Rod on death (Looting III raises it to 0–4). You need to build a Nether Portal, find a fortress, and kill Blazes near their spawners. Collect at least 6 rods on your first trip — you need them for both the Brewing Stand and Blaze Powder fuel.

Build a Nether Portal using at least 10 Obsidian and a Flint and Steel. Enter the Nether and note your portal coordinates — getting lost in the Nether is a common mistake on a first visit.

Find a Nether Fortress — the large dark brick structures with corridors and bridges. Travel in a straight line along the X or Z axis (not diagonally). Fortresses generate in north-south bands roughly every 200 blocks along the X axis.

Locate a Blaze Spawner inside the fortress — they appear on raised platforms or inside corridor rooms. Blazes also spawn naturally throughout the fortress at light level 11 or below.
