How to Get to the Consecrated Snowfield in Elden Ring
Updated April 2026 · 3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer
You need both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion — the right half from the Village of the Albinaurics in Liurnia, and the left half from Castle Sol in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Combine them and use the Grand Lift of Rold with the «Hoist Secret Medallion» action instead of the normal one.
How to Reach the Consecrated Snowfield
1
Get the right half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion. Go to the Village of the Albinaurics in southwest Liurnia of the Lakes — it is a hidden village in a cave at the base of a cliff. Inside the village, find a large pot sitting on the ground and hit it — an NPC named Albus is hiding inside. Speak to him and he gives you the right half of the medallion before dying.
2
Get the left half from Castle Sol. First reach the Mountaintops of the Giants — the region beyond the Grand Lift of Rold. Then find Castle Sol in the north of the Mountaintops. Fight through the castle to reach the boss: Commander Niall. Defeat him, then climb the tower behind the boss arena to collect the left half of the medallion from the chest at the top.
3
Return to the Grand Lift of Rold. This is the large lift in the Mountaintops of the Giants that you used to enter the region. Stand on the lift platform and instead of pressing the normal interact button, look for the option to «Hoist Secret Medallion» — this uses the complete Haligtree Secret Medallion and sends the lift to the hidden Consecrated Snowfield rather than the standard destination.
4
Navigate through the Consecrated Snowfield blizzard. The snowfield is covered in a near-whiteout blizzard that severely limits visibility. Follow the path of Torrent markers and golden fog wisps through the storm — they mark the safe path toward the Haligtree and Mohgwyn Palace waygate. Straying too far from the path makes it easy to get lost in the blizzard.
What to Do in the Consecrated Snowfield
→
Access Mohgwyn Palace via waygate: on the west side of the snowfield near the cliff edge there is a waygate portal that teleports you directly to Mohgwyn Palace — an alternative to Varre’s questline for reaching Mohg, Lord of Blood and eventually the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
→
Find the Haligtree entrance: the Consecrated Snowfield leads to Miquella’s Haligtree — one of the hardest optional areas in the base game and home to Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Follow the northeast section of the snowfield to find the entrance to the Haligtree area.
→
Commander Niall is tough — prepare well: Niall summons two Crucible Knight spirits before the main fight begins. Kill the summons first or you will be overwhelmed. His leg sweep and lightning attacks are highly damaging — maximum flask charges and a fully upgraded weapon are essential for this fight.
→
Recommended level for the snowfield: arrive at Soul Level 100–120 minimum. The enemies in the Consecrated Snowfield — especially the Putrid Avatar and Albinauric enemies — deal very high damage and have large health pools. This is solidly late-game content.
→
Valuable loot in the area: the Consecrated Snowfield contains several powerful items including the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing and multiple high-level crafting materials. Explore the ruins and catacombs in the area thoroughly despite the visibility challenges.
FAQ
Where is the Village of the Albinaurics in Elden Ring?
The Village of the Albinaurics is in southwest Liurnia of the Lakes, hidden under a cliff at the very bottom of the map. Head south from the Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace and follow the cliff base west until you find a cave entrance leading into the village.
How do I use the Haligtree Secret Medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold?
Stand on the lift platform at the Grand Lift of Rold and look for the «Hoist Secret Medallion» prompt — it appears as an alternative interaction option alongside the normal lift prompt. Select it to use both halves of the medallion and travel to the Consecrated Snowfield instead of the standard Mountaintops destination.
Do I need to beat Commander Niall to get to the Consecrated Snowfield?
Yes — the left half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion is locked behind Commander Niall in Castle Sol. You must defeat him to access the tower where the medallion is stored. There is no other way to obtain this half of the medallion.
Is the Consecrated Snowfield required to finish Elden Ring?
No — the Consecrated Snowfield, the Haligtree, and Malenia are all entirely optional. None are required for any of the base game’s endings. They are endgame optional content for players who want the full challenge and lore experience.
